Meet Abby- Abby was abandoned and found herself in a high kill shelter where she was terrified, and on the euthanasia list. We brought her into the safety of our no-kill shelter where she cowered and trembled. As the staff would spend 1:1 time with her in her kennel, as she observed the staff’s interactions with the other dogs, she soon learned she was safe and could finally relax, knowing she was going to be ok. The cowering and trembling ended. Abby is 6 years old, walks great on a leash, is completely house trained, has a gentle spirit and is a low-key, girl. She prefers being an only dog, but did well when we cat tested her. When she isn’t enjoying a leisurely stroll, she loves being a couch potato. Abby must have a fenced yard to keep her safe. She is fully vetted, chipped, and ready for her new home and family. Could that be you? All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
