Current pets must be up to date on core vaccinations, receive yearly heartworm testing, and be on monthly heartworm preventative. This information will be verified with your vet office. We do not ship or transport. Applicants must live within 350 miles of Maryville, Illinois, and be able to drive to that area for a meet and greet. The mileage restriction may be lifted for applicants with current/previous Cavalier experience. If you aren’t familiar with the breed, please do some research before applying. Cavaliers are known for many health issues that can get expensive. Applicants with Cavalier experience will be given preference. Only completed applications that meet the requirements will be considered. Ike is a very sweet little boy. He came into rescue by a breeder because he has an overbite. That means nothing to him, and he is living out his dream now. He is enjoying his foster brother of similar breed while playing in the fenced yard. Like most cavaliers, he enjoys being held and being with his humans. We like to remind applicants that a new puppy is a lot like a toddler. Ike will need to be supervised, and the best way to do that is to have a dedicated space set up for him. This area will be a part of the home where he can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where he can play, lounge, or nap when his family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. Ike is still learning how to walk on a harness and leash. We are requiring a secure physical fenced yard for him. A Cavalier has a nose that can get them into trouble. An aluminum/wrought iron type of fencing will need chicken wire or something similar around the bottom half so he can't get through. However, puppies should NEVER ever be left in a yard without supervision, NEVER. Ike's housetraining is still a work in progress, so he’ll need a patient family committed to regular potty breaks, positive reinforcement, and a consistent routine to help him succeed. He enjoys playing with dogs his size so medium or large dogs are not a good fit with Ike. Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time!
