Meet WHISKEY!
3-Year-Old Red Tri Australian Shepherd | 52lbs | Male
If you’re looking for a big-hearted, big-personality Australian Shepherd who is equal parts athlete, entertainer and devoted best friend, you need to meet Whiskey!
This handsome red tri boy is a total goofball with a zest for life and an incredible desire to be part of whatever you’re doing. Once Whiskey bonds with you, you’ll become his whole world.
He’s affectionate, people-loving, incredibly intelligent, and eager to please. He wants to be wherever his person is, whether that’s running errands, going to work, taking a road trip, or heading out for an adventure.
But don’t let his sweet, laid-back side fool you - He’s a high-drive, energetic boy who needs a “job,”* an outlet for his intelligence, and plenty of opportunities to put his athletic abilities to work.
His favorite things in the world are fetch and retrieving games. Balls, frisbees, and bumpers are his absolute favorites! He’s even been distance running with his owner for up to six miles at a time.
Whiskey is a quick learner who has received basic obedience training through Sit Means Sit (now Paws Up in Plano - a doctor will be welcomed for this information to talk to the trainer once adopted) and is e-collar trained.
Whiskey loves having a task, enjoys toys and puzzles, and thrives when he has something to do. He also loves his kennel, which is his safe place to relax, recharge, and settle when life gets a little too exciting.
He’s a social boy who absolutely loves people and would happily accept attention and pets from just about everyone he meets.
He’s been out in public so he’s also well socialized when accompanied his owner to work, enjoyed daily car rides, and traveled on road trips. He’s an excellent passenger and settles nicely in the car with doggie safety belt wherever you want him as co-pilot
Whiskey has also spent time at doggy daycare and has canine friends he enjoys playing with.
While he’s a confident, secured dog, he has been somewhat dominant with other male dogs. However,
he is getting neutered as soon as we find where he’ll land in his forever home and neutering will help a lot with that strong herding drive put to other uses.
Because of this, Whiskey would do best as either the only dog in the home OR with Aussie-experienced owners who understands canine introductions, boundaries and management. We believe a female, canine companion and playmate that is larger than him would be the best possible buddy-dog to have.
Although Whiskey has been around children and likes them, he’s a larger, enthusiastic boy who doesn’t always realize his own size, and he can still jump when excited. He would well was introduction management and supervision until the children are comfortable. A home without young children would be our preference
so over 12 years old with Aussie experience.
What kind of home does Whiskey need?
We envision Whiskey thriving with an active single person or couple who enjoys the outdoors, exercise, adventures, and working with an intelligent dog. Someone with experience handling confident, high-drive working breeds would be ideal.
He is not looking for a life spent lounging around the house all day. He wants to run, retrieve, learn, explore, and have a purpose. He needs someone who appreciates the mind and energy of an Australian Shepherd and is willing to continue his training and give him the structure he enjoys.
In return, you’ll have an incredibly devoted companion who will make you laugh, keep you moving, and love you with his entire heart.
Whiskey is a rough-and-tumble, larger-than-life goofball who simply needs the right person to help him channel his Aussie brilliance & energy into being the very best dog he can be.
He’s got the brains, the athleticism, the personality, and a whole lot of love to give. He just needs his person and his next great adventure!
Could that person be you? ❤️

General Info - PLEASE READ! *Our $450 adoption fee is based on the cost of rescuing, transporting and vetting each dog; we do not try to compete on prices with municipal shelters whose funds are paid by the city. Our philosophy is to rescue highly adoptable dogs, have them live kennel-free in private homes for temperament assessments and individual personalities.
We work hard to match EACH dog with the right family - kids or no kids, other dogs male or female and/or cats. With very rare exceptions all dogs over 6 months will be spayed or neutered PRIOR to adoption - dogs under 6 months will include a spay/neuter date AND referral info for lower-cost surgery if the adopter does not choose to use her or his personal vet. OUR VETS WILL NOT PERFORM SPAY NEUTER SURGERIES UNTIL DOG IS 6 MONTHS OLD.
