About Oyster

Hi!! I’m Oyster! I’ve been at First Ladies Farm since I was 4 weeks old. The ladies tell me I’m a REALLY special dog! We aren’t sure what breed I am, but we think I’m some kind of bully mix, but smaller because of all of the medical issues I had as a baby. When I was born, I was less than half the size of my siblings, and they bottle fed me until I was nearly 3 months old. It took me awhile to be able to see properly, and when I could, I got really sick and had to spend 10 days in the Critical Care wing at the University of Florida. They did all kinds of tests and lab work and it was really a scary time. Once we came home, they told me they still didn’t know what was wrong with me! Just that I had drank so much water I nearly died. The ladies had to limit how much water I could have. We were all waiting for a diagnosis, but literally everything was tested and I am negative for diabetes insipidus, Lyme disease, kidney disease, and about anything else you can name. I outgrew my insatiable thirst and we got to start potty training at 6 months old!! They also got me neutered, whatever that means. I am crate trained and really like my crate! I nap in there a lot when the door is open. I also love toys and get along with ANY other dog, large or small. I’m pretty good with cats but the ladies tell me I have a “prey drive” so I can’t be a good farm dog. I just really love to chase and hunt down all the flappy things like ducks and chickens. Which is kind of funny, cause I actually have a chicken allergy! I also think chasing lizards is the best fun ever. I would LOVE to have an active dog friend. I play and chase in the front yard with the little dogs at the farm for HOURS. I’m also fine with livestock like goats. I’m working on leash walking. I do pretty well in the yard and places I’m familiar with, but I get scared when we leave the yard or go somewhere unfamiliar. I use a special Bully Harness and it has to be tight. I am a super sweet, playful boy, that was just a little bit behind on my “mental growth markers”. I was so very sick as a puppy that I didn’t get to focus on training then because the ladies and all the nice vets were busy keeping me alive. The vets said it is possible that I have a mild case of Hydrocephalus. Or atleast that is the best guess UF gave us. Whatever it is? I am a strong, healthy, beautiful dog! I really want to please and to learn but it is just a little hard for me. But I’m getting there! We are working with a trainer and I keep getting better! I would really love to have a home with someone who is patient and loving, but will also let me play a lot!!! Could that be you?? Please come meet me!
